OK gang, let's have a go at this one.

How do you analyze and respond to the tug-'o-war between the Federal Administration and the RCC?

Should TEC get involved or just stay clear of the fray ?

Polls, of course, indicate that most American Catholics practice birth control and don't object to this measure. As always, it's the hyper-hypocritical Catholic bishops and conservative Catholics like Donohue trying to whip everyone into a frenzy. Where in the hell was the outrage when the bishops were sheltering and protecting pedophile priests? Puuulleeese! I'm sick of these guys. As far as I'm concerned, they have don't have a shred of moral authority left.

By the way, I was referring to Bill Donohue of the Catholic League. Not Phil. Laughing

After interviewing Bp. Spong, Phil D. spoke highly --- admiringly --- of the bishop.  Phil D. is evidentally a progressive, and I suspect "X",  RC.

Bill D., otoh, is a blustering loudmouth who always appears to need a shot and a beer.

I see on your profile that you're into Advaita Vedanta and presumably an admirer of Sri Shankara.  That makes for a fascinating Dharma*Path for one to walk.  Wasn't Sri Ramanuja a propounder of Vishishtavaita Vadanta or quasi-non-dualism?  I'm not certain of the Sanskrit spellings (my English spelling is crapulous also Undecided).

I should probably update that profile ... my views have morphed somewhat. I've become much more Celtic Christian/Anglican in my leanings - not because I think it's necessarily more "correct" or "right" than Vedanta and Buddhism, but because those traditions helped me remember the mystical/contemplative richness and depth found in the Christianity of my upbringing. The Divine works in beautifully mysterious ways ... bringing me full circle ... through deeply moving spiritual experiences in Buddhism and Hinduism ... back to my original faith (well, my original faith was RC, but there's no way I'll ever go back there). Now, because of my wanderings in Buddhism and Vedanta, I have a whole new perspective on the Christian Way. My appreciation of Christian spirituality is much stronger and deeper than it ever would have been without my study and practice of the Eastern Way.

My dictionary defines "hospital" as an institution for giving medical and surgical help.  It is not a religious institution.  The religion of its owners is irrelevant to the performance of its duties which is to serve its customers.  Can you imagine going to a hospital owned by JWs and being told, "Sorry no  blood transfusions allowed"?

Of course politics being what they are, our wily president made an about face.

The issue threatened to strike at the foundations of the Constitution and of liberty. Without the Bill of Rights, the Constitution would not have been ratified.I do not agree at all with the RCC on contraception but I am absolutely inflexible about the First Amendment and what it means for the divers religious bodies in this country.  The mandate was unconstitutional, period.

For those who have faith, no explanation is neccessary.
For those who have no faith, no explanation is possible.

St. Thomas Aquinas

If one turns his ear from hearing the Law, even his prayer is an abomination. Proverbs 28:9
