You know, like many, I've had a love - hate relationship with religion for a long time. But something I did not expect happened yestersay.
I was on the drive to church yesterday. I sing in the choir, and like to pray before I get there, but I knew it was the end of the month and my brother's power and water were going to be cut off. He lost his job, insurance, and the house is in foreclosure. He's also in need of surgery to overcome a disability that leaves him with unreliable limbs. They tremble uncontrollably and cause him to fall. Although an MRI and doctors show this, Soc. Sec Dis. turned him down. Things looked bleak. In our discussions here we were looking at 1st Timothy 2 and 3, and I found a verse about being there for you family and if you forgot them, church meant nothing.
My 3 sisters are all school teachers and can't afford to help our brother. This last time my husband said no more, we've been helping since the Summer.
I can't break my husband's trust, yet how could I have joy or peace, let alone sing; knowing my brother is destitute?
I was there about an hour early and by the babtism font asking for help when a friend and fellow congregant asked what was wrong. I told her; she comforted me and said she had an unexpected check for $250 and wanted to put that toward my brother's situation. When I was singing, it was like the veil was lifted, I could hear the heavenly hosts and angels join in, I could see Christ in the faces and I knew his embrace in theirs.
After the service, the Viccar gave me a check and my brother will have lights and water for another month. Thank you Lord, and thank you my beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ who make known the love and relationship of Christ through your love and kindnesses, in thought, word, and deed.
P.S, please remember my brother in prayer. Thanks! Love, B

I'm so glad your church family was able to come through for you! I can't tell you how many times members of my parish have helped me when I was in a difficult situation. Fortunately, there are many who remember "love your neighbor as yourself" and recognize that love is not an emotion but an action.

Done.
[I was able to share some good news yesterday with some of the people at church who've been helping me deal with my "housing issues".]
He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? [Micah 6:8]
Glad to know things are looking up for your brother and that the church helped. LOL, I needed to read about church people doing something good so your post may inspire more blessings!
Thank you, BritLit. I sure hope so! I can't help but think others must be going through dark valleys not our home, and what blessings come when we help each other through.
Your kind words warm the heart. Thanks and blessings of peace, B
