And now, for everyone who might want a big dose of "chocolate" to taste, here is a summary of how religion tastes to me: freethoughtblogs.com/alethianworldview/2...Warning: This is a large dose of "chocolate", and can easily lead to an upset stomach if too much is consumed at one time.

It's not chocolate, but ExLax for the brain.

The World is divided into armed camps ready to commit genocide just because we can't agree on whose fairy tales to believe. The belief in supernatural religion will kill us all if we don't outgrow it.
When I first read "End of Faith" I thought Sam went too far. The more I read and listen to these "believers" the more I wonder if maybe he wasn't right after all.

Can I complain that while it drops everything under the giant header of "RELIGION," all of the criticisms seem to be aimed at monotheistic groups?
Dark Energy. It can be found in the observable Universe. Found in ratios of 75% more than any other substance. Dark Energy. It can be found in religious extremists, in cheerleaders. To come to the conclusion that Dark signifies mean and malevolent would define 75% of the Universe as an evil force. Alternatively, to think that some cheerleaders don't have razors in their snatch is to be foolishly unarmed.

Sure, complain all you want! Though I will note that the polytheistic groups are sufficiently marginalized nowadays that they are not likely to be much of a problem for anyone else. There's nothing like being a religious minority to encourage polite behavior towards others. In many ways, I wish that every position on religion was a small minority. Then every group might be uninclined toward persecuting others due the knowledge that they would certainly lose if they tried ... when all the other groups ganged up on them in self-defense.

He's not picking on them, it's that they are the ones that hate the most. It's not religion he pointing to but the hate, the violence, the extremists tarnish religion with.

Abner's article clearly shows that theism doesn't actually do much to change human behavior; it just gives people another "tribe" on which to fixate. People who are generally good without religion are generally good with it and people who are generally a-holes without religion remain a-holes with it. Chalk it up to just one more indication that there is no god behind any of these human-invented social clubs: a difference that makes no difference is no difference.
