disagree versus intolerance

I would like to hear from church members, what their definition is, for the difference between "disagree" and "intolerance".

are non-members allowed to disbelieve?

perhaps disbelieving is the same as disagreeing?

perhaps disagreeing is a-ok, as long as one keeps their mouth shut about it?

I guess you could say there's a line between disagreeing and bigotry, and maybe my line isn't in the same place as other people feel my line should be

so help me understand if I need to adjust the location of where I place the line, by enlightening me

how does that feel to be a lawnmower man? must be a real rush.

Aka my Bro,

I'm sorry if I sometimes come across like a moral police running after you from board to board and self-righteously clobber you with a moralistic baton! I need a lot of bludgeoning myself and wouldn't mind if you did the same to me from time to time. We tend to be blind to our own blunders. ;)

I do think disagreeing is fine, but how to express disagreement is far more important in order to keep the discussion constructive. I know this because I suck at it. Particularly on internet discussion boards, it is mighty easy to unintentionally come across hostile for simply being frank and for dispensing with all the empty pleasantries. However, one does not need to be pretentiously courteous in order to be kind. Zooming straight into the perceived errors in the other poster's argument or beliefs without any attempt to understand where they're coming from, is the greatest way to lose audience.

Rather we should live by these two injunctions. I think both of us fail from time to time, and I do not claim I'm any better than you. These injunctions are from yours and mine own holy writings.

"Consort with all men ... in a spirit of friendliness and fellowship. If ye be aware of a certain truth, if ye possess a jewel, of which others are deprived, share it with them in a language of utmost kindliness and good-will. If it be accepted, if it fulfil its purpose, your object is attained. If any one should refuse it, leave him unto himself, and beseech God to guide him. Beware lest ye deal unkindly with him. A kindly tongue is the lodestone of the hearts of men. It is the bread of the spirit, it clotheth the words with meaning, it is the fountain of the light of wisdom and understanding...." (Gleanings, p. 289)

"Warn, O Salmán, the beloved of the one true God, not to view with too critical an eye the sayings and writings of men. Let them rather approach such sayings and writings in a spirit of open-mindedness and loving sympathy. Those men, however, who, in this Day, have been led to assail, in their inflammatory writings, the tenets of the Cause of God, are to be treated differently." (Gleanings, p. 329)

Kindly,

LilWabbit

P.S. The fact that you self-reflect is very admirable!

it shows that you care... and how could your caring possibly upset me. it can't.

the reason for creating this thread was a passing reference that I personally have crossed the line.

I need to know where the line was crossed, so I can own up and apologize.

it wouldn't be possible to require "the passing reference" to be retracted IF no examples get brought forward... but peace of mind in knowing I haven't crossed the line is enough for me.

I once had a death threat levelled against me simply for being Mormon.

Categorize that.

Histrionics.

A conservative is someone who believes that firefighters, teachers, and police officers are overpaid.

"Wesley told the early Methodists to gain all they could and save all they could so that they could give all they could. It means that I consider my money to belong to God and I see myself as one of the hungry people who needs to get fed with God’s money. If I really have put all my trust in Jesus Christ as savior and Lord, then nothing I have is really my own anymore."

Republicans experience suffering the way they experience all their virtues, i.e. vicariously.

According to "just war" standards of Christian theology, if Saddam Hussein killed 30,000 Iraqis, and the Iraq War killed 120,00, how was the War "just"?

I literally had someone say that they wanted to see me dead simply because I'm Mormon.

That's all there is to it.

You'll pardon me if that sounds highly improbable unless there was some serious provocation.  I can't think anyone would care that much about who is or isn't Mormon--or any other sect; Sunnis and Shias excepted.

Histronics, plus a persecution complex, and Possum Junction, Texas where smallness is largeness to a little mind.

Actually, that's pretty much how it happened.
