"My thought would be that they’re trying to understand what members of the faith understand about the issue," Martinez said. "They’re trying to gauge the level of understanding and ignorance."

does God NOT have an opinion?

on whether illegal immigrants should be sent home before baptism, should be putting their government assistance in the tithing basket to purchase their temple recommend

or... should we do like God does, and prefer Nephites over Lamanites

have church leaders THOUGHT about asking God what He thinks?

the mere fact the church won't publish the results...

PROVES this not about "gauging LDS ignorance" as Martinez puts it, as it is about trying to piecemeal any kind ofposition together in the complete absence of God saying anything.

how does that feel to be a lawnmower man? must be a real rush.

I take it that you have no background in surveys or marketing?

What the church is doing is seeing just how much of what SLC's saying happens to be filtering down to people.

It's actually a non-issue; most heirarchal organizations will eventually do something like this if they're smart.

It's all about gaguing and improving the flows of communication going both ways.

The LDS gods have a poor record with regard to persons of colour.  Maybe, this time, from the ground-up, the gods will have a better idea what to decide.

A conservative is someone who believes that firefighters, teachers, and police officers are overpaid.

"Wesley told the early Methodists to gain all they could and save all they could so that they could give all they could. It means that I consider my money to belong to God and I see myself as one of the hungry people who needs to get fed with God’s money. If I really have put all my trust in Jesus Christ as savior and Lord, then nothing I have is really my own anymore."

Republicans experience suffering the way they experience all their virtues, i.e. vicariously.

According to "just war" standards of Christian theology, if Saddam Hussein killed 30,000 Iraqis, and the Iraq War killed 120,00, how was the War "just"?

if your point is that SLC is no different than Boeing or Coke...

then just come out and say so.

this could NOT be further from the truth...

what HAS the church said on the subject of illegal immigration?

the church SAYS one thing (they're illegal and need to go home) yet DOES another (baptises them here and turns a blind eye to the interview question of being honest in all your dealings).

what's that word for saying one thing and doing another?

1. does God have an opinion about illegal immigration.

2. have church leaders asked God what He thinks.

I guess that after baptism, immigrants may be politically illegal, but mormonistically legal, which of course trumps anything the gov't. may say?

Mormons find themselves in a bit of a dilemma.  One one hand, they are supposed to obey the laws of the land and on the other they believe that all are the Children of God irrespective of political borders and should be treated accordingly.  Which side do you take Kemmer?

I'm not going to call Inmigración no matter which way you answer.  Wink

Having spent time in Mexico and also having taught 30+ years in a "ghetto" school with a heavy Hispanic population--legal and otherwise--I'm for granting citizenship to all who've been here in gainful employmentfor at least 5 years and a working knowledge of English.  I don't care about their religion or lack of one, although almost all are Catholic.

^I see no reason that they need to learn English... we are not still a colony of the U.K. are we?

This is a nation-state for all, so majority rules, that's always how it's been.   Now since the caucasian population is shrinking (the average white couple is having 1.2 children), and the entire population would be shrinknig in the US without the hispanics..... soon Espanol will be the majority language and ya'll better learn how to habla espanol.

Sexy people speak French.   Less sexy people speak Spanish.  What language did the Barbarians speak who destroyed Rome?  -- English.  Look it up.  It's true.

WWJD?

church leaders have no idea.

supporting evidence that Jesus has no connection to the group of old white dudes.

perhaps after surveying the membership... they might piece meal together some sort of official position. but I think they're smart enough to NOT create anything official, more often than not it's bitten them with foot-in-mouth disease after enough hindsight to recognize it as such.
