It's beautiful English.  It's not a reliable picture of the MSS, esp. since the Nag Hammadi texts came to light.

A conservative is someone who believes that firefighters, teachers, and police officers are overpaid.

"Wesley told the early Methodists to gain all they could and save all they could so that they could give all they could. It means that I consider my money to belong to God and I see myself as one of the hungry people who needs to get fed with God’s money. If I really have put all my trust in Jesus Christ as savior and Lord, then nothing I have is really my own anymore."

Republicans experience suffering the way they experience all their virtues, i.e. vicariously.

According to "just war" standards of Christian theology, if Saddam Hussein killed 30,000 Iraqis, and the Iraq War killed 120,00, how was the War "just"?

MSS = manuscripts.

I was listening a bit to a local "Christian" radio station while on the road yesterday, and heard some semi-literate person giving us "today's scripture to live by".  He was reading from the KJV and apart from the constant stumbling over archaisms and syntax, I got the impression from his intonation and wrong stresses that he had no idea what he was reading.

I feel that way about most Anglophones, Kemmer:  Utterly incomprehensible.

I'd LOVE to hear someone with a heavy French accent read from the KJV.

You just used the words "beautiful" and "English" in the same sentence. Are you feeling OK?

To be fair we should acknowledge that modern English is heavily influenced by French.

I'm a native speaker and I don't find English beautiful at all. Its a good language for neurotic bureaucrats and little else, in my opinion. I happen to think Mandarin is the most beautiful language, followed by Spanish and then Russian.
