A believer in Jesus as the Christ.  Jesus phrased this best when he said, "He that believes in me...".

if a church member felt empowered enough to strip the label Christian from another person...

what would they be basing this power on?

would it be on the power of the priesthood?

they have to have some "measure or definition" with which to judge a person's worth before they can even claim to be stripping others the label Christian.

and it remains a mystery where this "measure or definition" comes from????

If anything, it'd be based on that person's conduct in contrast with what they claim to believe.

For example, more than a few ministers over the years have spoken Jesus' name while stuffing their pockets with church $$$ (like the Bakers). For these people, their conversion and sincerity could quite reasonably be questioned.

I don't see any difference between the Bakers, etc.  and any church, including and ESPECIALLY lds that hides behind god while stealing your money, under the pretense of "tithing."

I am curious, when has the church or any general authority even "stripped" someone of the title Christian?

1. It would be an empty headed empowerment, since the individual chooses their beliefs.  Trying to strip someone else of their right to worship as they choose is against the tennets of Western Democracy.  You need to go south of the Mason-Dixon line if you wish to do this!!!

2. The Definition comes from Webster's Unabridged Dictionary, which allows you to grab objects 5-6 inches higher when standing upon it.  The Dictionary may trace their rationale back to the words of Jesus in John 3:15.

I have been prevented by a church member from calling myself Christian.

Individual members of any church may be in error about the teachings of their own church.  I asked about the church as an entity or a general authority not any individual fool.  Further how has this individual "prevented" you from calling yourself Christian?  Merely disagreeing with your self labeling is hardly preventing it.
