Does God Require Seventh-day Adventists To Obey Church Leaders?

The attitude of Seventh-day Adventists to the church hierarchy is represented perfectly by this lamentation: "A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land: The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way." Jeremiah 5:30-31.

But this Scripture doesn't really explain if the people of God think that they are required to submit to church leaders, only that they love doing so. That's why I'm taking this survey.

Here are two Scriptures that may be cited to defend unconditional loyalty to the Seventh-day Adventist hierarchy:

Hebrews 13:17
"Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you."

1 Peter 2:13-14
"Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right."

The point of view held by the Seventh-day Adventists that support my ministry, which the church hierarchy frowns upon, is radically different. We believe that there is a war going on in the Seventh-day Adventist church between those who want the church to follow the heavenly standard and those who strive to influence the church to conform to the standard of the world. Consequently, our message to the larger church is that God wants all Seventh-day Adventists to decide which side they are on.

Here is Ellen G. White's View of the Conflict:

In vision I saw two armies in terrible conflict. One army was led by banners bearing the world's insignia; the other was led by the bloodstained banner of Prince Immanuel. Standard after standard was left to trail in the dust as company after company from the Lord's army joined the foe and tribe after tribe from the ranks of the enemy united with the commandment-keeping people of God. An angel flying in the midst of heaven put the standard of Immanuel into many hands, while a mighty general cried out with a loud voice: "Come into line. Let those who are loyal to the commandments of God and the testimony of Christ now take their position. Come out from among them, and be ye separate, and touch not the unclean, and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters. Let all who will come up to the help of the Lord, to the help of the Lord against the mighty."  8T 41.1

The battle raged. Victory alternated from side to side. Now the soldiers of the cross gave way, "as when a standardbearer fainteth." Isaiah 10:18. But their apparent retreat was but to gain a more advantageous position. Shouts of joy were heard. A song of praise to God went up, and angel voices united in the song, as Christ's soldiers planted His banner on the walls of fortresses till then held by the enemy. The Captain of our salvation was ordering the battle and sending support to His soldiers. His power was mightily displayed, encouraging them to press the battle to the gates. He taught them terrible things in righteousness as He led them on step by step, conquering and to conquer.  8T 41.2.

At last the victory was gained. The army following the banner with the inscription, "The commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus," was gloriously triumphant. The soldiers of Christ were close beside the gates of the city, and with joy the city received her King. The kingdom of peace and joy and everlasting righteousness was established.  8T 41.3.

For those who are inclined to believe that the Seventh-day Adventist hierarchy can do no wrong and that Ellen White did not prophesy their destruction, then you'll want to stick around and pay careful attention to what sincerly and company have to say.

Eugene, This isn't a survey, but more trashing of the SDA Church. Your highlighted words above are indictive of your goal---To divide and cause doubt. Your erroneous beliefs were NOT Accepted at Richardson by the Leaders and you have not repented of them. All your articles written on your site attest to the their continued erroneous beliefs. The misuse and falsely attributing of EGW'S writings in an effort to vindicate your "ministry" attest to your identy as "wolf in sheeps clothing".

In the early1900, There was a crisis brewing by pantheistic ideas from a leader(Doctor) of the Sanitarium. And that was the issue of your excerpt. Dr. Kellogg left the SDA CHURCH.
NO!! SDA's are not to follow erroneous Teaching---no matter who presents them. That includes yours as well.

Eugene, one doesn't need your eroneous "discussion and interpretation" as EGW ended it quite well---"""At last the victory was gained. The army following the banner with the inscription, "The commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus," was gloriously triumphant. The soldiers of Christ were close beside the gates of the city, and with joy the city received her King. The kingdom of peace and joy and everlasting righteousness was established."""

There may be others who will wage war with the SDA Church, like yourself, but they are doomed to fail as well. Just as all who go counter to GOD and HIS Plan of salvation will.

Jesus spoke truthfully to Paul, "Acts 9:5", "And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: [it is] hard for thee to kick against the pricks"".  Don't you want to reconsider??

Your refusal to answer the question, "Does God Require Seventh-day Adventists To Obey Church Leaders?" and posting trash instead, doesn't invalidate the survey. You don't have to participate. That is your right.

Eugene, What does this mean??? ''''NO!! SDA's are not to follow erroneous Teaching---no matter who presents them. That includes yours as well.""

God requires truth and Obedience to HIM and your posts from your sites do NOT meet that requirement.

Shubee, I have read many of your links on your posts, and I find them interesting, but sometimes terse in your criticism of the SDA church. In this particular post, the two scripture references you quoted (Hebrews and 1st Peter) are directed more towards our obedience and submission to those who govern us in the secular world. Taking into consideration our obedience to God in those matters that contradict governmental edicts, 'we ought to obey God rather than man'. That axiom also applies to any religious leadership that contravenes our relationship with God.
