Your reference to "earthquakes" has no relevance, as the verse does not  state that mountains prevent the natural phenomenon known as an  earthquake.


 


So what do you  mean by "stabilise" then?

Again, according to science itself, mountains help to balance the earth's surface and prevent it from shaking. Meaning that if there were no mountains, the earth's surface would shake, whether there is an "earthquake" or not. It would have no stability, meaning unbalanced and shaky.  In other words, right now as we speak, there is no earthquake happening in your area right? And as we speak, the earth's surface is not moving and shaking you as you walk right? Well, the reason why you are not shaking is because there are mountains holding the surface of the earth together so you won't shake. In it's simplest form, the reason why the earth's surface is not shaking you right now is because  there are mountains keeping the surface stable. However, an "earthquake" will cause the surface to shake.
