f you are a Atheist why would you even bother with a Church (UUA ) in the first place, if the Problem is a God why even bother accepting other people from other Religious backgrounds within the UUA Geez no wonder The UUA is going down the tubes. you can't claim all are welcome as long you don't mention the G-word..... pretty Ridiculous just my opinion. No offence intended..

I suggest you read The Cathedral of the World, Forrest Church's last, and posthumous book, for a definitive answer to your question. Forrest focuses on the universalist part of UU and thinks that the God illuminating the windows of the Cathedral even has light that is shared with atheists.
I know that looking through my atheist "window" at religious music, ritual, and creeds, has taught me much about living as a human, even about living as a human in a basically atheist sub-society in that human world. If you think about religion, even your own, you are probably a UU and would find a good place to continue to think about it in a UU church. I would choose an inclusive UU church rather one with rules about what music can or cannot be played, and whether or not God is a four letter word, But I don't resent at all the time and money I have spent in nearly a half century of active UU participation.

Because there is more to "religion" than belief in a deity. The main reason I value UU is community fellowship. It's a set of friends, but more than that, it's a set of friends who share my values, who are committed to being better people, who are willing and eager to help me be a better person. I have lived without fellowship for a time, and I have discovered that I need it, or I slowly get caught up in "the world" and find myself far from the path I'd like to be on.

It is possible to find fellowship in "the world" but it is a lot more work than finding a diverse group of caring, tolerant, and thoughtful people that the best UUs have to offer. Unfortunately many fall short, and "the world" is the only alternative. I have lived without fellowship for a time, and I have discovered that I need it, or I slowly get caught up in "the world" and find myself far from the path I'd like to be on.

Doug Muder said that what religion is really about is how to live in the world. The stories about God or Gods are explanations for their version of how to live in the world, but aren't really necessary. I find the UU idea of how to live in the world to be more inspiring than any other religion's version. You may also.
