I was looking for this old thread the other day and couldn't find it; today, I finally did.  It's important (and I miss WGSmith), so here's the link to it for our continued reference (as detractors of Liberty often try to claim the ACLU is anti-Christian):

ACLU Defends Christian Liberty  (from the old bnet)

Enjoy!

Thanks for the link, Kj
"When it shall be said in any country in the world, my poor are happy; neither ignorance nor distress is to be found among them; my jails are empty of prisoners, my streets of beggars; the aged are not in want, the taxes are not oppressive; the rational world is my friend, because I am a friend of its happiness: When these things can be said, then may the country boast its constitution and its government." -- Thomas Paine: The Rights Of Man (1791)

I'm particularly proud of the way I found it, finally, after combing through the archives (a pleasant task, actually, remembering many old threads and perusing).  The old boards still have that annoying, mixed-up, non-chronological thing happening, so you can't make a detailed search.

I found a reference to the thread I wanted so that I had its exact title (I couldn't remember the title before), and then I could google it with quotation marks.  Bingo!  :)

excellent work!
on the old boards i would occasionally link to the religious liberty section at the aclu site. (here 'tis: http://www.aclu.org/religion/govtfundin … 60824.html) this would sorely provoke the aclu-haters, some of whom appear to spend their entire waking lives hating the aclu. (full disclosure: i'm not a member.)

I just read the first couple of pages.  Funny, it only took until the fourth post before the tolerant people started slamming Christians.

Its nice to see some things never change.

Two gifts for you, CB:

First, a hankie.  So terribly sorry your feelings were hurt.

Secondly, a clue:  Intolerant people come in all groups.  Shouldn't be news.

Bonus gift:  Some people think "tolerance" means "give me props."  It doesn't.

Didn't say I was hurt.  In fact, I find it very funny.

I'm also terribly sorry that sarcasm is lost on you.
