I am not delighted with "In God We Trust "on coins, but I'd rather stay neutral. I do have much stronger disdain for "under God" in the Pledge, since it was added in the Joe McCarthy era. Atheists/Agnostics are not Communists, but fine people with often higher ethics than traditional garden variety believers. It takes moral courage to be honest about unbelief or to proclaim "heresies" as your own. i am a heretic for moral reasons. The Trinity, God Incarnate, and the Atonement for me do an injustice to morality particularly when coupled with Augustinism. Richard

Coins should simply state the name of the country and the denomination. The Pledge of Allegiance should not be said in any form. Why should children have to begin every school day by reciting a loyalty oath? That sort of thing smacks of totalitarianism.

Hi I'm new, but I hope you don't mind my jumping into the conversation.
Originally in God we trust was not on our currency. It was added in the 50s. Personally, I wish we'd go back to Godless money. |

I vote for no God on money and I'd like a Pledge to the World, or better yet to the Universe...then the word God wouldn't be needed.
So do I.
(they want me to make this longer, so...) I vote for godless money and no pledge. I think pledging when you become a citizen is ok, but I already am one so no more Pledge. Besides, if I have to pledge, I'd like it to be to my Constitution, not to a flag. Can I go now?
No AintKatie...you must stay forever.....! :) I agree. |
