Hey all,

I would really like to be able to contact my spirit guide, or guardian angel, or ascended master or whatever is out there.  I just feel in need of spiritual guidance, and I don't feel comfortable putting my faith in any man-made religious tradition.  What should I do?  Can anyone contact their spirit guide, or is it a gift that only some people possess?

Welcome to the Spirit Guides forum Steven. I believe that everyone can connect with their guidance. You probably are and just don't realize it. Do you ever have a random thought of someone and then they call or you see them while out and about? I hear my guides within my thoughts.

More members will come with their thoughts and beliefs. Hope you will enjoy the forum and the new Beliefnet Community.

There's a thread further down the list called "Finding your Spirit Guide....." There's a lot of helpful information. Might be worth reading. There's also a thread on "Different Types of Guides." If something else comes to mind for you, please ask.

Don't know if OP will be back, but the other day I had an example.

I was driving along and had the thought.....don't speed there are police ahead.

Sure enough in less than a minute there was Radar Love. Actually in a part of the road way where I don't normally see them. This knowing about Radar Love happens a lot. I feel my guides are letting me know. Not that I have a hot foot, but I have been known to speed. Yet the only ticket I ever got which was dismissed was in 1973.

When this happened I thought about this thread. :)

I know how you feel.  I have a guide and hear her quite loudly at times.  However, I have no idea what her name is.  Imagine talking to someone for years and they never give their name.  I could be blocking it unknowingly as you are probably blocking your guides "words of wisdon".  All I can say is, try sitting in your bed, alone and quite when no one else is home.  Relax, breath deeply and close your eyes.  Start to think of something that is bothering you or your may need guidance on.  Simply state the problem and relax your mind for an answer.  When thoughts come into our mind, don't automatically think it is you answering yourself.  Accept the answers that come as if coming from a close, trusted friend.  When you talk to yourself in your head, it sometimes is the guide.  You just need to think that way and be more "second person" when the answers or thoughts come.

So many people, so many ideas - particularly on any topic paranormal.

There are meditation exercises that work to specifically attune to your guide.  Some use a symbol, some other methods.  It is so much a trial and error type of thing til you find yoru own meditation for use.

I will try to meditate more, and be more aware all through the day and try to "listen" more.  Really what I was thinking of was along the lines of psychics, such as someone like Sylvia Brown.  I don't know if she is a genuine psychic or not, but she claims to be able to hear her spirit guide as an actual voice in her ear.  Has anyone here ever heard or seen their spirit guide in such a manner?

Sometimes clairaudience (hearing) is at the ear level and sometimes is a thought in the head.  Spirit guides work in connection with what we are capble of doing.

Do not worry about names - it is an energy exercise

Do not worry how others get through - this is the most personal experience you will ever have with spriit.

Form a partnership in love and bond so that you can trust and have confidence in the information given.

Make it your own.

I have both seen and heard a number of my Spirit Guides. Communicating with them is very personal and individual.

I wouldn't use Sylvia Brown's information. There have been many predictions she's made on the Montel Williams show that have been incorrect and quite devastatingly hurtful. Her books are ghostwritten and full of mistakes about the Afterlife and other facts.

One glaring mistake she made in one of her books is she said Spiritualism no longer exists as a religion. It still is very much around.

You dont have to read any fancy books or get some fancy priest or messenger in order to contact your spirit guides
just take some time out of your day..  night preferably..
and pray that the following things occur

Say Father Mother God whatever anyone calls You;
please send to me  the pricipalities the angels
sit there and try to tune into a higher vibrations around you.. they will arrive immediately.

Once you feel the comfort; try to leave behind the dogma of thinking you have to do something in order to gain Gods approval and love.. 

Ask to set an appointment with your spirit guides, ask them to appear to you in your dreams
ask them for messages;
they key thing here  is simply believe that God did in fact will send you Help
why wouldnt He ..?

This is all-loving God we are talking about.


the more you gain in contacting them
the stronger the strength of your own convictions will become.

dont be frustrated with yourself if you cannot experience everything you want immediately
be paticient with yourself..   I can still feel the Angels around me...
