Sometimes its the little things that happen in life that can hold such great meaning. I work at McDonald's and many days the people that come in to order are grumpy, irritable, and sometimes downright rude. There are some who always come in or through the drive thru with smiles and are incredibly happy. I work in the mornings and so I can sometimes understand the grumpiness since it is early (at least that is the reasoning I use). However, things sometimes happen in the most unlikely of places that remind you of the goodness of humanity.
"You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty." -Mahatma Gandhi
Truly this is the case. This week while I was working the drive-thru a lady came in, she always comes at least once or twice a week to get something to drink. She asked me how much the next order was (besides her) so I looked and told her. She then gave me the money for her order and then told me that she was going to pay the next order. At first I thought I misunderstood her, but she clarified that she wanted to pay for the next persons order. "A little random act of kindness" she said with a smile. Now you have to understand that her order was only a $1 and some change while the next order was $14! Yet she handed over the money and paid for the order and wished me a great day. The next person came and asked how much and I said "oh the lady in front of you already paid for your order." The lady looked at me confused "Are you sure?" and then stated what she had. I replied "Yes, she paid for the entire order." You could see the surprise on her face and she replied "Wow, what a very nice thing to do."
And while i'd like to say it was the first time, there have been times when others have done the same thing. Where they will pay for someone elses order by giving me a $20 and saying that if there is any change left just to put in the Ronald McDonald House Charity bin (which I do). I see little random acts of kindness happen all the time and it definitely makes you realize that there is goodness in humanity.
