When I took the classes with the Monks, the most intersting of all is their behavior for not tolerating waste. For example, there's notes in the coffee/tea area that's posted asking us to put our name on the paper cups we were using each day so that we would not throw them away and get another one. In the restroom there were notes posted asking to be conservative with tissue and paper towels. That was also the theme when we eat together, the bowls were given to us and we put the meal in our bowl but we were careful not to put too much in them because we did not want to waste any food. Speaking of eating together, we did not talk at all in the lunch room. It was quiet, which was very different from our culture where we are taught to use dinner time to communicate with our family. The experience was very different from what I am familiar with. I can say this, the entire time I took those clases, I was mindful of wasting things at home. I need to remind myself of that even more so now. That was indeed a good experience and I plan to go back to study meditation at the temple this spring.

I have a question. What was the one or should I say the main event/issue that attracted you to seek this change from Christianity. I recently began taking meditation classes with monks at a Buddah temple in Houston and I love it. However, as interesting as it is to me, I wonder at what point in one's life do you give yourself permission to practice another religion such as this withon the subtle feeling of guilt? Believe me I know there's nothing to be guilty of but it is very much different from any other religious practice, especially coming from a christian.
