MERLIN, A MAN OF MYSTERY AND MAGIC. THE GREATEST MAGICIAN & SORCERER OF ALL TIME.
Merlin is one of the most fascinating figures in the Welsh literature & Arthurian legend. Merlin was a man of mystery & magic; contradiction & controversy surrounded his life. He was a wizard or sorcerer, a prophet, a bard, an advisor, & a tutor. Merlin was the last of the druid, the Celtic shaman, priest of nature, & keeper of knowledge, particularly of the arcane secrets.
Geoffrey of Monmouth named Merlin--Merlinus Ambrosius (Merlin Emrys in Welsh). Geoffrey said Merlin was born the son of a nun & grandson of the King of Demetia in southern Wales. As to his father, he was either a devil or an incubus. Merlin is a paradox, he was the son of the devil, yet he was the servant of God.
Many scholars were puzzled over his birth, his magical powers, his prophetic gifts & his mysterious yet often conflicting fate. There were several versions of Merlin's death or his mysterious disappearances from the legend. Merlin disappeared before Arthur was born. In most later tales, Merlin was still alive when Arthur became king. He even outlived Arthur & the Knights of the Round Table.
Others say he died at the hands of the Lady of the Lake (a powerful sorceress & the lady of Otherwordly realm, hidden by the illusionary lake). At the dolorous forest of Broceliande (some called it Darnantes), a woman named Niniane whom Merlin loved, used his own magic against the sorcerer; she entombed Merlin in a rock.

Wow, this is definately interesting. I never knew anything of Merlin and his connection to the mysteries. I will be researching this one.
