A Very Trying Day

    Friday, March 28, 2008, 11:51 PM [General]

Without getting into too much detail...this was one devil of a day.  It started when my phone rang at 5:30 am.  It was my 76 year old father telling me he had to go to the hospital to tend to his kidney stones (40 year history of stones).  He lives 100 miles from me and his wife was already in the hospital for the last 8 days recovering from her own surgery, so he needed me to take him.

I told him that I had a follow up appointment with my surgeon for my surgery I had earlier this week and that since I was going back to work Monday, I couldn't miss it, but I would be there as soon as I could.

So I did what I needed to do and headed to Dad.  Step mom was released from the hospital around 2:00 pm and she had a friend pick her up and take her home, and she left me at the hospital with him, saying she had errands to run.  He was later released from Urgent Care around 6:30.  Then it was to the pharmacy, grocery store, etc to make sure he had everything he needed for the weekend.

But none of this is before I had to yell all day to the point that my mouth is killing me (by the way, my surgery was oral surgery and I am still on heavy pain meds, which I couldn't take today because I was driving all over the state of SC!)  You see, he is hard of hearing but seems to hear just fine when I want to have a private conversation with my husband or the nurses or doctors.   He spent the day asking me questions, hundreds of questions.  As soon as I went to answer, he would start screaming, "I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" or "I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING!".  Well Dad, shut up for a minute and you might hear me! (Oh I wish I was brave enough to say that!)

He has thrown no less than 3 temper tantrums, better than my daughter did when she was 2!  One for not having his phone in my purse, (it had a dead battery and I left it in the car); one for his perscription not containing enough pills to cover the weekend, and finally one for not getting the dog food out of the car quick enough to feed the dogs, you see, they must eat at 6:00 and it was almost 7:30.  Nevermind that I hadn't eaten since 7:30 the night before!!!!

All of this while my step mother, who is 2 years YOUNGER than me, sat there saying, "now you know what I deal with every day!" and "you thought I was lying to you".  UGH!!!!!  It is enough to make me want to look into assisted living homes!

It is now 11:45 and this is the first chance I have had to vent all day, and I took it all out on this computer page.  I feel so much better now.  Bless you for listening!
