My son and I were conflicted about the Iraqi war, even before his two combat tours of Iraq. We shared our love of philosophy and were writing a book that compares the teachings of the great minds of the world my son's experiences as an infantryman in Iraq. The book's original title was to be "The Great Conversation." After he was killed I had to finish the book and the title changed to "Last Journey." In order to complete the book I was allowed by Gen Petraeus to embed with my son's combat unit in Baghdad. My son was a great warrior and a great philosopher. He was actually the smartest man I have ever known. He and I both felt he fought for the right to question our government's policy about going to war and the conduct of war. He loved America and I love America. It is the greatest country on God's green earth.
