Everybody believes in something. I believe I'll have another beer.
OK, that was my flip statement of beliefs from the previous incarnation of B'net. Since you have delved this far into the BeerLover profile, I'll say a bit more about myself. I'm a Christian first and foremost, and try to pattern my life after Jesus. One of the most compelling images to me is when Jesus washes his disciples feet. He came to serve, in utter humility, rather than to be served, giving to those who could or would not return the favor or even show appreciation. That's Christlike giving.
No, I'm not really a Zen Buddhist, but incorporate a healthy dose of Zen philosophy in my life. I was a Zen Christian long before I knew what Zen was all about. I'm big into trust, especially trust, living for the day, and finding the beauty in everybody and every thing. It's there, just a bit harder to see sometimes. The bible does talk in these terms some- Matthew Chapter 5 comes to mind. {OK, it's Chapter 6 I was thinking about. "Do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Seek the kingdom of heaven first and all these other things will take care of themselves." Chapter 5 has the beatitudes, and that really radical teaching about turning the other cheek and loving your enemies.} These are central tenets of the Zen philosophy. I don't worry about heaven or hell, that's God's job, not mine. Actually, one of my heroes, Martin Luther, was a Zen Christian. When asked what he would do if he found out the world would end tomorrow, Luther replied, "Plant my garden." That's a wonderfully refreshing attitude.
Hey, I'm still here! I know I've been gone for a long time but it's good to see you are here (as well as Maylily, Alma and Wren) I miss all of you guys!!
Hi Beer! I'm not sure how to retrieve my old username so I just started over. Like Alma I miss the quiet halls of the original Bnet but more than anything I've missed being here, so I'm back. (Huge Beer Hug) xxx Wren
After reading your post I feel I should lay down. Thank you sir. Peace be with you.
