My best gift given is speaking to a large group of Grade 6- 8 students at a school last month. I shared with the students re: anti-racism and how they could rise above barriers to pursue their dreams. It was an interactive session and the students had lots of questions.
Students coming from families where they are first generation settlers undergo many forms of struggles. Some of them flee from their country for econmoic and political reasons. Then they undergo several barriers such as cultural, language, social, religious, gender and personal barriers. they feel a double whammy. Being there I share my personal stories, answering to their Q's was giving hope to them. It gave them hope that they can succeed too. Sharing one's life challenges can assist to tranform children's lives. Children are precious and they need to be heard. Being part of such children's lives was a great blessing for me.
