In many spiritual writings and teachings it's mentioned that before a soul enters a body, the soul make agreements to meet and interact with other souls. When they meet in this life, the two souls have a sense of rightness about being together.

We believe that animals are souls in furry, fuzzy, and feathery bodies. They make soul agreements to enter a person's life at exactly the right time and to leave it when their spiritual mission is completed. These animals become our spiritual partners in this life and meet us again in heaven.

We've received many stories from people who adopted animals and couldn't shake the feeling that the decision had been mutual. Others have written to us that they've rescued animals who, in turn, rescued them.

What do you think? Have you had experiences with an animal who has chosen to be part of your life, perhaps to adopt you? Is there a special animal who had a spiritual purpose for choosing to be with you?

3 years ago my son was riding his go cart up and down our driveway and a dog started following him. She followed him all day no matter how many trips he made. She was so beautiful and smart. She knew how to sit, lay down, roll over, heel, etc. My son fell in love with her. I explained to him that she had to belong to someone and had to be lost. We went to all our neighbors, posted her picture, put an ad in the paper, but no one claimed her. We named her Trace and she has been a joy in our life. She chose us and I'm so glad she did!!

Butterfly And FlowersI have a foster cat named Shadow who I saved from going to the animal shelter since his owners had to move to an apartment.  He seems to fit that description as he is always by my side, if I go out in the garden, meows at the window until I come in again.

My Angel dog Cinnamon came into my life when I was 6 months pregnant. She was going to be a companion for our baby boy, due on Sept. 24, 2002. Unfortunately, our baby died from S.I.D.S. the first year of life. Cinnamon bonded to me after his death & believe me I wouldn't have survived his loss if it wasn't for Cinnamon's unconditional love. Like in my post under "why animals are called Angels?", I endured much trauma outside of Tommy's death, coming from an abusive family. I believe that Cinnamon is my soul mate, my earth Angel. I know I would have taken my life if it were not for Cinnamon. In fact, after my former husband left 2 weeks after the funeral, I took a handful of pills. I was unconsious for 3 days, left a week of water & food for her & a note. I came to with Cinnamon licking my face & whimpering in my ear. It was at that point that I realized she is my earth Angel. She came into my life at the right time. That's no coinsidence. 3 weeks ago, we [my current husband] adopted a toy Chihuahua named Mija[Spanish for little girl]. She is 10 weeks old & tries to nurse off Cinnamon! And she's spayed! But Cinnamon lets her try. A 110 lb. dog adopted a 2 lb. puppy. It's funny, seeing a little dog "chashing" a big dog about the home! Cinnamon is a mix of Chow, Rotweiller, & Pit Bull. I am a activist of Pit Bulls in that I know that the breeds are not bad, it's how one raises them with love[ no yelling, hitting, etc.]. They sleep together & play together too. We also have 2 cats, 1 rat that's the same size of Mija! They play too. It's said that a person lives longer w/ pets & I see why. I love them the same as I love my 3 children. I have been truly blessed with these furry babies! I'm thankful for this group, knowing now there are others who feel the same way. Thank you for having this group. Love, Boo Boo Bear & Cinnamon & Mija [woof!]

I adopted an adorable orange and yellow cat who had only a stump for a tail in 9/07. This cat took to me instantly. He was everywhere I was. It took a while for me to name him. I wanted to see what his personality was like before I gave him a name that I thought fit. He was eventually named Ringo. Ringo was my constant companion until this December. He passed away New Year;s Eve. When Ringo came to live with me my life was in complete turmoil. I was being forced to leave my home due to a separation from my partner. I was barely functional and extremely suicidal. My entire was crumbling in front of my eyes. I ended up moving to a place much smaller than the other house. From a 3 bedroom house to a one bedroon trailer was humiliating to say the least. I hated it but I felt I was trapped in it. I did nothing to make it inviting. I wanted nothing to do with it. It was during this time that an experience between Ringo and I took place. The area where we moved had many dogs and children, my cats were not used to these creatures and soemthing scared him enough for him to climb to the top of a 40 foot palm tree. I tried everything possible in an effort to get him climb down, but nothing worked. He cried day and night for three days. I couldn't call the fire department because the tree wasn't on my property. I just couldn't hear him cry any longer and the next thing I know, I'm climbing this palm tree with some crazy notion that I'm going to save him. Not likely. At about 15 feet, my foot slipped and I fell 15 feet to the ground breaking my foot, sepcifically the heel. A few days later, I fell again and I broke my ankle this time, at least on the same foot. A friend stopped by and climbed the tree again. He reached about 20 feet before he had to give up. The next morning Ringo climbed down the palm tree in the exact same manner as my friend. This action caused consequences in my life that I was not quite ready to handle. Due to complications involved during the healing process I recently had 2 surgeries to help correct the problem as much as possible. During the time of healing, Ringo was always by my side. If he was outside when I came home, he came immediately when called. If I was sitting in a chair, he would sit on my lap and roll over and go to sleep with a smile on his face and purring away. He even slept with me. He would snuggle up under my chin and place one of his paws on my cheek. He's be so relaxed and purring away that I hated to move him if I needed to get up for something. The bond I felt with this cat comforted me. His death remains a mystery to me. He didn't show any signs of sickness, no fever, no coughing, trouble breathing, none of those. He was just very lethargic. As he was lying in front of the heater, I told him over and over that I loved him. I then thanked him for saving my life. If it were not for the experience I had with the cat, I probably wouldn't be here today to speak about it.The feeling I experienced after his death was something I had never experienced in my entire life. I felt a sense of peace and freedom. I was not experiencing the so familiar angish at the loss of a pet that I noramally experience. December 27 I was able to use my foot again for the first time for a year. This accident has caused me to learn to slow down, trust God, have faith, and many other experiences. Ringo's purpose had been completed and it was his time to go home. Ringo not only saved my life, he changed it as well. Ringo-my gift from God.
