A few things I believe: 1. The point is to learn to travel outside yourself, to learn to apprehend the Other in others. 2. Religion is sometimes as much a part of the problem as it is part of the solution. 3. Most Christians would be surprised about what God considers sin. 4. The basic sin: putting ourselves at the center of the universe and forgetting that other people truly exist, and thus being able to treat others as objects. 5. The Kingdom of God is within you.
I'm a 50-year-old ex-Evangelical Episcopalian, married for 20 years, one child who has suddently become a Teenager. A tragedy in my life several years ago found what I called my "faith" wanting. As soon as I was willing to finally give up some of the comforting but false beliefs I was raised with, I discovered (somewhat to my surprise) that God was Real, and for the first time in my life, perhaps, entered into an authentic relationship with God.
